February 29, 2024– HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, a 435-bed full-service acute care facility and part of HCA Florida Healthcare, the largest healthcare system in the state, today announces the birth of the hospital’s 2024 leap-year baby.

On a rare and joyous occasion, the Dorelus family welcomed their newest member, baby boy Fritz, into the world on February 29, 2024, making him a leap-year baby. Fritz weighs a healthy 6 lbs. 12 oz. and is 19 inches long. Born at 4:05 a.m. at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, Fritz’s arrival adds an extra layer of excitement to his birth story.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to share this memorable experience with the Dorelus family,” said HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital women’s services manager Jami Friend. “His leap-year-birth makes him truly one-of-a-kind.”

Leap year babies, born on February 29, only get to celebrate their official birthdays once every four years. The odds of being born on Leap Day are 1 in 1,461.
