UHealth Names Health Care Pioneer as Chief Marketing OfficerLee Phillips, a global marketing specialist who led Humana’s entry into the UK, has travelled far in his career before landing in Miami to join the UHealth team as Chief Marketing Officer. He is responsible for designing and implementing UHealth’s marketing and communications strategy, and elevating its brand.
Phillips, a pioneer in using retail marketing techniques to change consumer health behavior, is passionate about what he calls “the incredible opportunities” at UHealth.
Initially, Phillips is concentrating on rebuilding the UHealth brand from the inside out. He has been meeting faculty and staff across campus to tap into their passion, dedication, and history of accomplishments and will use their stories as part of an internal campaign to re-energize them about the work they do and the experience they deliver. As he’s quick to note, marketing is not a panacea for negative patient experiences.
A London native who earned his undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Oriental Studies from Cambridge University, Phillips spent the first five years of his career on the agency side working in Tokyo, before moving client side to work for global brands including mobile telecoms company Vodafone and the venerable Harrods department store.
But he found what he calls his “niche” when, about six years ago, he began refocusing his creative energies and strategic skills on better ways to deliver health care and motivate consumers to make healthier choices.
In leading Humana’s entry into the UK market, he launched and ran Humana Creative, growing it into a leading provider of communications, engagement and social marketing services to Britain’s National Health Service. For his pioneering work in designing health engagement and prevention campaigns, he was inducted into the CorpComms 100 Club, which recognizes the UK’s top performing corporate communicators.

Martin Health System
Rachel TerlizziCommunity Benefit Coordinator
Rachel Terlizzi has been a proverbial jack of all trades in her 13-year career at Martin Health System.
She began working in the billing department while still in high school, then worked a variety of jobs after completing college. In 2011, Terlizzi joined the project team that was implementing a new electronic medical record system.
She began working for the marketing communications department in 2012, taking the role of community benefit coordinator – a job with numerous facets that range from sponsorships to event planning.
“I love being involved in the process of helping give back to the community,” Terlizzi said.
But she is also focused on ensuring Martin Health, a not-for-profit provider, is meeting its community benefit obligations to local residents. And as the federal government implements mandates on what constitutes community benefit, Terlizzi said there are opportunities available.
“Martin Health has always been dedicated to our community,” she said. “We are looking for new ways to make a difference and address community health needs.”
Michelle GriffithMarketing Representative
Michelle Griffith spent 15 years in marketing and sales for major real estate communities, hotels and resorts. But when she had an opportunity with Martin Health System a year ago that allowed her to change gears and enter the health care field, Griffith jumped at it.
“I was excited to work for an organization that is such an incredible community servant,” she said. “I believe in the services and the people at Martin Health.”
In her role as a marketing representative, Griffith is a liaison between physicians and the health system. That requires relationship-building skills that were developed during her career in hospitality and real estate.
“The physicians are a crucial component of our mission,” Griffith said. “They need to trust that I will give them individualized attention and support. Health care is a service-oriented business that makes you feel like you have accomplished something good each day.”
