Holy Cross Hospital has opened its newly renovated maternity unit as the Doreen Koenig Blessed Beginnings Maternity Unit.

Koenig dedicated herself to the charitable campaign that successfully funded Holy Cross Hospital’s Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center and also was instrumental in founding the hospital’s Women Owning Wellness committee, a group focused on raising funds to improve the health and lives of women and their families. Before her death from breast cancer in July 2015, she had embarked on a campaign to fund a new maternity unit at Holy Cross.

The new maternity unit features the latest state-of-the-art technology in obstetrics including a level-two neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that is able to accommodate babies born as early as 32 weeks, a well-baby nursery, a mother and baby model of care, private rooms and two private VIP suites. All patient rooms are able to accommodate fathers and another family member. Renovations also were made to the labor and delivery area, nurses’ stations, family waiting room and education rooms.
