Fort Lauderdale resident Carl Macino has been named Holy Cross Hospital’s 2016-2017 Volunteer of the Year. Macino, who has served for two years in the non-profit hospital’s emergency department, was honored at the Holy Cross “Especially for You” Volunteer Appreciation and Service Awards Luncheon.

"Carl is the embodiment of what we look for in a volunteer," said Holy Cross Hospital President and CEO Patrick Taylor, M.D. "He has a servant’s heart, helping wherever needed and with a joyful disposition. He treats everyone with respect and compassion, has a positive attitude and is well liked by all who are privileged to know and work with him."

Macino’s volunteer duties include stocking supplies, rounding on patients and offering blankets and pillows to help ensure their comfort, assisting staff with clerical work when needed, and training new volunteers within the emergency department as volunteer chair.

Also recognized at the volunteer appreciation luncheon were June Yurina for serving 25,000 hours, Mary Kalis for 35,000 hours, Maxine Holzworth for 45,000 hours, and Pat Stepp for serving 50,000 hours during their yeas of volunteering for the non-profit hospital.
