Volunteers at Homestead Hospital were honored for their service at an appreciation luncheon held recently at Capri Restaurant in Florida City.

Twelve people received certificates and a gift for volunteering 300 hours or more last year. They were Emily Anderson, Lillian Archer, Barbara Dempsey, Lenore Ferguson, Bobbie Jackson, Richard Murray, Cecile Silva, Rick Tandoc, Mary Wysong, Daniel Urrea, Alice Wilburn and James Zaharako. These volunteers help staff the hospital’s information desk and gift shop, transport patients and assist departments with various duties. Urrea volunteered the most time last year, spending nearly 1,200 hours helping others at the hospital. Dempsey began volunteering three years ago after retiring from working at the hospital for 40 years, making her one of the hospital’s longest-serving employees.
