In honor of Veterans Day, Broward Health salutes members of our dedicated team who have served our country with courage, commitment, and sacrifice.

Hermann Gauthier

Hermann Gauthier, a U.S. Army veteran, is a medical office supervisor with Broward Health Physician Group. He has served our country for a decade, including twice in the Iraq War, as an E-6 staff sergeant.

His military service has instilled in him several values that enhance his career at Broward Health, including exceeding expectations, having a strong work ethic, and the importance of togetherness.

“All of these skills have provided me with guidance and served as a tool to advance not only in my career but in life as a professional and productive human being,” Hermann said. “As I always mentioned to my soldiers, ‘All for One, and One for All.”

Kathy Sherman

Kathy Sherman is a senior medical technologist at Broward Health Medical Center who served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant (E-5). She has been part of our Broward Health team for 36 years.

Kathy is grateful for the training she received through the military. “I received my American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) license and interned at Brooke Army Medical Center,” she said. “I wouldn’t have a career in laboratory medicine without that training.”

Harold Howell

Harold Howell serves as a monitor tech at Broward Health North’s progressive care unit. He is a U.S. Army veteran and served as an active-duty rank Army Private Second Class.

“Being in the Army, I learned discipline and structure,” Harold said. “In my everyday life and work life, structure and discipline are the key factors in being able to function. Without those factors, I tend to get frazzled and off balance. From my gym and church life to my work life, those key factors are essential and have been for many years!”

Suzeline Celestine

Suzeline Celestine is a unit secretary at Broward Health Coral Springs. She served in the U.S. Navy as an E-3.

“Throughout my career in the Navy, I learned discipline, respect, and accountability,” Suzeline said. “My chiefs always told me there is always someone that works better than you, so don’t ever think that you’re better than the next person. They also told me to be the best I can be at what I do and not to take anything for granted. So, I live life to the fullest because tomorrow is not promised.”

Edward Daniels

Edward Daniels is an orthopedic supervisor at Broward Health Medical Center. He served as a Petty Officer Third Class (PO3) in the U.S. Navy.

“I’ve been with Broward Health for eight years and celebrating,” Edward said. “I can quickly adjust and contribute to different situations. Deshan Kennedy

Deshan Kennedy is an IT project management officer at Broward Health Corporate. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

“The Marines taught me to take on challenges, to always strive to be and do my best, to care for those on my left and right, and to make sure everyone is good to go,” Deshan said. “The Marines taught me how to be a leader before I ever thought I was ready to be a leader. Semper Fidelis.”

Christopher Goodson

“While serving in the Air Force, I obtained my pharmacy certification and a degree in Information Technology,” Christopher said. “As a healthcare IT professional for more than three decades, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with great healthcare professionals from all over the planet. Leading a project implementing the first pharmacy prescription-filling robot in the Air Force sparked my interest in the healthcare IT arena.”

Carletta Young Evans

Carletta Young Evans is a pharmacist at Broward HealthPoint. She is a retired Navy commander with more than 24 years of military service.

“As I look back on my military work experience, I found that I was able to apply my formal education, training, skills, and level of integrity to the requirements and adjustments for the strict military requirements with ease,” she said. “The desire to provide quality services to the military personnel and their families with compassion was enhanced. My military time was an adventure that I will always be able to reflect upon as my family and I served our country with great pride.”

Timothy Zastrow

Timothy Zastrow is a senior clinical informatics analyst at Broward Health Corporate. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant (E-5).

“Teamwork, leadership, career skills, self-reliance, confidence, and the ability to perform under pressure are all skills that have carried me forward in my civilian life,” Timothy said. “As for experiences, 9/11 affected my time in service greatly. It shaped my entire path and experience in the Air Force, and the person I had to become to meet expectations became the foundation for the person I am today.”

Lesly Luithle

My military service shaped and taught me that life is bigger than myself.”

Alfredo Guevara

We don’t lose, but we may fail forward.”
