Alzheimer’s disease presents a complex journey, affecting memory, behavior, and emotional well-being. At Lisbet Assisted Living and Memory Care, residents are supported through every stage of Alzheimer’s with a unique blend of science, compassion, and creativity. Central to this approach is the integration of NeuroArts, a field that uses artistic expression—music, visual arts, drama, and movement—to stimulate brain function and enhance quality of life.
Lisbet’s programming is thoughtfully enacted across both assisted living and memory care, ensuring that individuals in all stages of Alzheimer’s receive appropriate, enriching experiences. Whether someone is navigating early cognitive changes or requires advanced support, the goal remains the same: to keep the mind and body engaged, and the spirit uplifted.
Community programs include:
- Inspired by Music: Weekly sessions use seasonal songs and instruments to evoke memories and emotions.
- Relish Painting: A no-mess watercolor activity where residents “paint” with water to reveal images that fade as they dry, fostering creativity and accomplishment.
- You Be the Judge: Dramatic reenactments of real court cases engage residents in role-play and imaginative dialogue.
- Zippo Poetry: Residents craft haiku-like poems inspired by the Wellington zip code (33414), nurturing language and personal expression.
These offerings stem from Liberty Senior Living’s INSPIRE Life Enrichment and GEMMS programs. GEMMS stands for Genuine, Engaging, and Meaningful Moments, and is inspired by Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care. It emphasizes recognizing and celebrating the abilities that remain at each stage of dementia. INSPIRE promotes whole-person wellness through experiences that are Inclusive, Nutritional, Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Recreational, and Engaging, empowering residents to pursue passions, discover new interests, and live with purpose.
Adding to the therapeutic environment, the artwork in Lisbet’s memory care neighborhood is carefully curated to stimulate nostalgic memories and feelings. Covers from The New Yorker and The Saturday Evening Post feature children, pets, beach scenes, and autumn landscapes. Food-themed images—like old-fashioned ice cream counters, soda fountains, and sweet corn—are chosen to evoke comfort and stimulate appetite.
Lisbet’s commitment to excellence is further reinforced by Liberty Senior Living’s designation as an ICAA 100 Member, placing it among a select group of senior living organizations leading the way in wellness innovation. This affiliation ensures that Lisbet remains at the forefront of aging research, programming, and best practices.
Through NeuroArts, INSPIRE, and GEMMS, residents are not just cared for—they are celebrated.
