Working for HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, for the last 7 years, there have been many changes in the way we work. We still have the feel of a small patient oriented organization but to stay profitable we have worked hard to try and adapt larger business models to be more efficient and effective.
One of the simplest changes we have made over the years, that has had the greatest impact, was installing a T1 connection for our Internet. Besides the speed for Email and Web access in the office, that alone allowed us to set up private networks from employees homes so that some could connect to our office from their PC and basically work from home with the speed of being at your desk!
Our future plans call for eliminating the amount of paper we generate and the redundancy that can occur when entering patient information. Our goal this year is to get our field staff using Notepads and Laptops and to adapt to the going “green” motto. Cell phone cards will be attached to these devices, allowing immediate connections to our Healthcare Database. Updates to information will occur in minutes versus days. All data will be on electronic forms on the computer instead of paper.
Just like the technology around us, we are adapting to what helps get the “paperwork” done so we have more time, for our real job, which is taking care of our patients
