The Department of Education & Development at Jackson Health System provides continuing education for healthcare professionals. Contact hours are provided for a number of disciplines, excluding physicians. Knowledgeable professionals, experts in their field, teach all programs and many are highly interactive. Programs cover clinical topics in various categories of nursing from medical/surgical to pediatric to critical care and many more. For example, lets say one wanted to learn how to read an electrocardiogram (ECG) of the heart (tracing of the heart). One could begin by taking ECG Level 1 that requires no prior knowledge about the heart and its tracings. By taking ECG levels 2, 3 and 12-Lead, and mastering the content, one could be eligible to work in a telemetry unit.
In addition we offer programs that are open to all healthcare workers and are more general in nature such as our stress management series. We also offer a medical/surgical and a critical care internship programs several times a year. Some of our more popular certification programs are Basic Life Support and Advance Cardiac Life Support. Five times a year we offer a Prevention of Medical Errors/Domestic Violence/HIV Update class that meets re-licensure requirements. Other programs that we offer focus on improving communication, becoming aware of cultural differences, dealing with anger and staying calm and safe in adverse situations. Most programs start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. but 1.0 to 2.0 hour modules are also available. We have a list of programs that can be delivered on-site by request and customer service programs that are based on need. Every year we develop an education guide with a listing of our programs that gets distributed to all employees.
