The Petrocelli Emergency Center has more capacity, advanced clinical equipment, and new “Fast Track” areas

January 31. 2023  – Recently, the Jupiter Medical Center team and donors held a ceremonial ribbon cutting to signify that the Petrocelli Emergency Center is now open. The expansion increases the not-for-profit hospital’s emergency department capacity by 30 percent with the addition of 11 ER rooms and eight Fast Track bays to treat patients with non-life-threatening ailments more quickly.

The renovation and expansion features advanced clinical equipment, spacious patient and triage areas, and expansive waiting areas for loved ones. The center will also feature cutting-edge technology, including a dedicated CT scanner with True Fidelity technology that utilizes Artificial Intelligence to perform deep learning image reconstruction. The collective improvements — additional space, innovative processes, and cutting-edge technology — will improve quality outcomes and decrease wait times, providing an enhanced experience for patients and their families.

“Our community is growing, and so are we,” said Amit Rastogi, MD, MHCM, President and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “With the expansion of the emergency department, we will now be able to meet the needs of even more community members. But we didn’t just increase capacity; we modernized our emergency department to include cutting-edge technology and innovative processes to enhance our patients’ experiences and improve their outcomes. We remain extremely grateful to our donors who made this expansion possible.”

The $4 million expansion was made possible thanks to generous donations, most notably a $3 million gift from the Attilio and Beverly Petrocelli Foundation and a $1 million gift from Joyce C. Fisher.

Before this expansion, Jupiter Medical Center’s emergency department was last renovated over 15 years ago when the hospital was accommodating only 21,000 emergency department patient visits per year. In 2022, Jupiter Medical Center saw more than 45,000 emergency department visits, and with this expansion, leadership expects that number will only continue to grow.

“We are seeing more patients than ever before in our emergency department,” said Vishal Gulati, MD, Medical Director of Emergency Medicine. “Jupiter has traditionally been very seasonal, with visits from northern residents peaking during the winter months. However, the population is now changing, resulting in regular visits throughout the year. The modernization of our emergency department will help our world-class physicians to better address the needs of our growing community. No one wants an emergency, but when it happens, it is reassuring to know that quality care is close to home.”

The emergency department expansion is one of several construction projects currently underway at the area’s only not-for-profit hospital. Last year, Jupiter Medical Center broke ground on a $100 million Surgical Institute. The 90,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will feature 16 smart operating rooms and two hybrid operating suites. Plans are also underway for a new patient tower, which will add approximately 100 inpatient beds, as well as a parking pavilion.
