Contribution supports critical health and human services programs and encourages additional community investment across Southwest Florida
June 3, 2026 — Lee Health announced at a press conference today a $250,000 commitment made through the Lee Health Foundation to United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades to support critical health and human services programs across Southwest Florida.
As a community-focused nonprofit health system, Lee Health is committed to supporting the overall well-being of the communities we serve. Improving health extends beyond the walls of hospitals and physician offices and includes investing in organizations that help address critical community needs. Through partnerships with organizations like United Way, Lee Health supports programs and services that make a meaningful impact on individuals and families across Southwest Florida.
The contribution comes as United Way works to address a reported $1.6 million fundraising shortfall while continuing to support dozens of partner agencies that provide essential services to local families, seniors, veterans, and individuals facing hardship.
Of the total contribution, $132,000 will directly support the WeCare program, which provides access to specialty medical care and services for uninsured and underserved residents in Lee County. The remaining funds will support United Way’s broader mission. All of the funds provided align with the commitment made by Lee Health in its 2024 conversion to continue it’s 110 year mission of caring for Lee County’s residents.
“United Way has long been an important partner in supporting the health and well-being of our community,” said Chris Simoneau, Lee Health’s Chief Development, Marketing, and Communications Officer. “Many of the needs they help address – access to care, food insecurity, housing instability, behavioral health support, and assistance for vulnerable populations – directly impact the overall health of our region. At a time when many nonprofit organizations are facing increased demand and financial pressures, we believe it is important for community partners to come together in support of services families rely on every day.”
United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades supports a network of nonprofit agencies and programs serving residents across the region. Community leaders have emphasized the organization’s longstanding role in coordinating resources and helping meet urgent local needs during economic downturns, natural disasters, and other community challenges.
