November 4, 2024 — Lee Health is thrilled to announce that it has became the first multi-site health system in the United States to earn the prestigious American Society of Health System Pharmacists Certified Center of Excellence™ designation in Medication Use Safety and Pharmacy Practice.
The recognition from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) places Lee Health into an elite group of only six pharmacy teams in the country to receive the honor and the first health system with multiple hospitals to earn the distinction.
The certification is used by healthcare organizations worldwide to accurately assess their level of performance in relation to established standards and to implement ways to continuously improve. The ASHP Standard for Certification as a Center of Excellence in Medication-Use Safety and Pharmacy Practice reflects contemporary best practices for hospital and health-system pharmacy practice. Pharmacies that achieve the accolade demonstrate the highest levels of pharmacy practice, medication safety, and pharmacy patient care services.
“Receiving this award is a testament to our team’s dedication to excellence and continuous improvement in pharmacy services,” said Lee Health pharmacy system director John Armitstead. “Lee Health’s pharmacy teams have consistently led the way with innovative approaches that have become standard practice across the industry. We continually strive to serve the Southwest Florida community and beyond at the highest level. This recognition highlights our commitment to the highest standard of patient care.”
The recognition of excellence in medication-use safety and pharmacy practice allows organizations to differentiate themselves while enhancing the credibility and value of pharmacy services they provide to physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers, and patients.
Lee Memorial Hospital, HealthPark Medical Center, Gulf Coast Medical Center, Cape Coral Hospital, and Golisano Children’s Hospital provide a full range of generic and brand-name medications, specialty supplies, and pediatric prep.
