Mariners Hospital Board of Directors recognized Board member Louise Orzel for her years of service to the hospital during a special ceremony at the Boards May 24 meeting. Orzel is retiring from the Board and moving to Pompano Beach.
Jay Hershoff, chairman of Mariners Hospital Board of Directors, presented Louise Orzel, retiring Board member, with a clock in recognition of her years of service to Mariners Hospital.
“Without doubt, Louise is one of the most dedicated Board members we have,” said Jay Hershoff, Board chairman. “In the early days of her involvement with Mariners, she was extremely active on the Caring for the Community Board, which was the precursor of todays Mariners Hospital Foundation. She brought that enthusiasm and support to the hospitals governing board in 1992. Louise has made a lasting contribution to Mariners and the people of the Upper Keys, for which she deserves our utmost thanks.”
Orzel, who has lived in the Keys with her husband, John, for almost 30 years, first became involved with Mariners by joining the hospital auxiliary in the mid-1980s. A lifetime member of the auxiliary, Orzel served as president in 1993 and was Ways and Means Committee Chair in 2004. She also helped organize some of the first Bougainvillea Balls, an annual event that has evolved into the hospitals major fundraiser.
