Greystone Healthcare Management, an industry-leading healthcare management company, announced that Maria Albury, Executive Director of the Wilton Manors Health and Rehabilitation Center, was honored with an Excellence in Healthcare Award from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber recognized people in the healthcare industry who go beyond the ordinary scope of their job to make a positive impact in the community.
Albury has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience. As Executive Director of the Wilton Manors location, Albury runs all operational aspects of the facility, from patient care to new hires to quality assurance. Wilton Manors is one of four Greystone health centers located in South Florida, offering skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services, medically complex care and traditional long-term care services.
“We are so happy that Maria received this lovely award from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce,” said Kimberly Pero, regional vice president of the South Florida Region. “She is someone who never hesitates to do something special in order to meet her patients’ needs. We have long known her dedication to her job is extraordinary – it is wonderful that more people know now.”
There were many anecdotes that demonstrate her commitment to patients. The judges learned how she created her “Stars of Life” program, offering skilled, custodial and rehabilitative services along with a holistic approach for people affected by HIV/AIDS. She purchased a typewriter for a patient who experienced respiratory failure who loved to write, dubbing her “Artist in Residence.” She became a contributor to the rehabilitation center’s newsletter. Albury traveled out of state to track down the birth certificate of a recovering stroke patient who never was able to secure it on his own. She aided a homeless woman in the community and was able to reunite her with her family in Pennsylvania. The list goes on.
Albury joined Greystone in 2006. She previously served as the Executive Director for Greystone’s largest skilled nursing facility, Unity Health and Rehabilitation Center. Since joining the Greystone family, Albury has received multiple awards including Greystone’s Outstanding Leadership Award for Sustainability.
Albury graduated from the University of Miami. She is a Certified Preceptor and has mentored many aspiring administrators through the years.
