On August 26, 2019, Miami Dade College – Medical Campus opened its door to a state-of-the-art academic simulated facility; Center for Learning, Innovation and Simulation (CLIS) located in the heart of the Health District in Miami, Florida. The way this addition connects the campus was not by chance, it was through the vision and collaboration of Medical Campus leadership. The five story, 132,000-square-foot addition provides the students with top notch education and training that allow them to transition seamlessly into the health care industry.

The five story facility houses eight programs and has an entire floor that is a virtual hospital and another floor dedicated to the Benjamín Leon School of Nursing. The other programs housed in the new building are Physical Therapy Assistant, Physician Assistant, Respiratory, Medical Assistant, Histology and Clinical Lab Sciences. Other features are 15 high-fidelity patient rooms, a simulated ambulance, operating room, a home health apartment, a virtual reality room, 10 examination rooms, 150 tier auditorium, 300 seat multi-purpose conference room, student collaboration spaces and high-tech classrooms. The facility has been equipped with the latest technology. All classroom and labs are equipped with high-tech projectors or 85-inch monitors, are able to record and play back scenarios and have the capability to teleconference anywhere in the world.

The virtual hospital is dedicated to advanced medical simulation that facilitates the practice of working in real-world clinical environments. Students are able to practice and perform various medical scenarios which in turn minimize human error in a real environment. This helps improve safety and improves the quality of patient care. A prime example is the simulated ambulance with motion, the only one in Florida. Students can feel what it is like to be in a moving ambulance while trying to provide care at the same time. The more they have the opportunity to practice in this type of situation the better they get before going into the real world.

By constructing the new facility, the campus has been able to grow other programs such as Emergency Medical Services, Sonography and Veterinary Technician just to name a few. However, one program that the campus is particularly proud to bring on board is Surgical Technology.

Miami Dade College Medical Campus -CLIS is a game-changer for the region, serving as an unparalleled training ground for health care professionals.
