Samir Elmir, MS, PE, DEE, Professional Engineer Administrator for the Environmental Health Division of the Miami-Dade County Health Department, has been accepted as a participant to the fourth annual Florida Engineering Leadership Institute, a yearlong development program that focuses on building a strong and diverse network of professional, community and business leaders.
Elmir will participate in six leadership sessions throughout Florida from October 2006 to August 2007. Elmir, who has been with the Miami-Dade County Health Department for 17 years, has led the Environmental Health Division since 1994. In his tenure in this position, he has acquired an in-depth knowledge and experience administering the regulatory environmental programs, such as drinking water, waste water disposal and air pollution, for the division. He has published at least 10 articles in the area of recreational water quality and health effects.
Recently, Elmir successfully defended his dissertation work in microbial contamination of recreational waters. He will be awarded his PhD from the University of Miami School of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering in December 2006. Elmir received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering from Beirut University in 1984 and the University of Miami in 1989, respectively.
