Miami Jewish Health Systems announces that Rabbi Israel de la Piedra has joined the organization full time as on-site rabbi and director of spiritual cares. Rabbi Israel joins Miami Jewish Health Systems with the support of Mishkan Miami, the Jewish Connection for Spiritual Support of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Rabbi Israel has made working with elders the focus of his rabbinate. Previous to his work in Miami, the rabbi worked in Boston, MA as a chaplain at Hebrew Senior Life and with bereaved families at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels.
Before becoming a rabbi, Rabbi Israel was an economist with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he had the opportunity to work in many countries around the world and to be posted in both Ghana and in Burundi as IMF Resident Representative. He received his rabbinic ordination and a Masters degree in Jewish Studies from the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in Newton Centre, MA. He also has a graduate degree in economics from Boston University.
