October 23, 2024 —Miami, FL– NAMI Miami-Dade brought back one of their signature events, “Reel Minds Mental Health Film Festival,” on Sunday, October 20th, to an enthusiastic audience who watched ten short films that offered diverse perspectives on mental health at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center.

The short films illuminated the complexities of mental health – both poignant and humorous – sparking hope and understanding. At the event, mental health professionals and filmmakers came together to engage in meaningful discussions about their films and mental health conditions. They shared powerful personal stories and offered inspiring messages of hope and recovery.

“We presented films on topics including anxiety, depression, psychosis and body dysmorphia, and displayed filmmaking techniques including drama, humor, music, and animation,” said Susan Holtzman, CEO and President of NAMI Miami-Dade. “Out of 70 remarkable submissions, we carefully selected only ten, reflecting our belief that these films truly represent people’s creativity and give us an insight into how to address these vital issues,” Ms. Holtzman emphasized.
