The North Broward Hospital District has received approval for a new Internal Medicine Residency Program to be based at Broward General Medical Center (BGMC). The new program will consist of 27 residency positions once they are all filled. The first residency class is scheduled to start in July 2007. The internal medicine residency program is one of only two such programs in Broward County, and will join BGMC’s other residency programs, which include: Orthopedic Surgery, Family Medicine, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Dermatology and Palliative Care Fellowships.

“The projected shortage of physicians in our state can only be addressed by expanding postgraduate training programs,” said Alan Levine, President and CEO of the North Broward Hospital District. “It is an established fact most physicians will ultimately practice near where they completed their residency. That is why this investment is so important.”
