Sissy Stephen, RN, brings 28 years of neonatal care and management experience to her position as nurse manager of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Broward Health Coral Springs.

In this position, Stephen initiated a new NICU strategy in which premature babies are fed fortified 22- or 24-calorie breast milk instead of 20-calorie breast milk from the Broward Milk Bank Depot, providing them with additional nutrition that’s vital to their survival, growth and development. The Milk Bank Depot provides a safe location for women to donate their extra breast milk to help at-risk babies.

“I have an innate love and compassion for babies, especially those born prematurely or with medical complexities,” said the highly respected NICU nurse manager. “That drove my desire to become a NICU nurse.”

A 2023 March of Dimes Woman of Distinction, Stephen earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ, where she is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership.
