Working with patients who have had strokes or traumatic brain injuries, as Sandrine Ndongo does, requires helping them overcome both physical and mental challenges. “It’s a very emotional time when they are just beginning to process what has happened. I’m focused on showing patients I care, that it’s important they accept assistance, and embrace the process required to get better.”
Ndongo has been with Memorial for the past two years and works to get individuals back to their highest level of ability. Her efforts are aided by a rehabilitation institute program that introduces current patients to those that have previously been in the same circumstances. “Seeing those that have been where they are helps overcome depression and fosters a more positive attitude,” said Ndongo, a charge nurse. “The most rewarding thing is seeing those that trusted us leave in a better place, and knowing our team helped make that miracle happen.”
