Palm Healthcare Foundation’s grants to area health organizations in FY2017 by health priority include:

Behavioral Health

Achievement Center for Children and Families-Healthier Delray Beach ($200,000)

Funding supports Healthier Delray Beach, one of the foundation’s community-driven, multi-year, place-based initiatives. Its mission is to serve as a trusted advocate for the behavioral health needs of the Delray Beach community by creating awareness, encouraging acceptance, and developing a system of care. 

Community Partners-Healthier Neighbors ($200,000) (Riviera Beach and Northern West Palm Beach)

Funding supports Healthier Neighbors, one of the foundation’s community-driven, multi-year, place-based initiatives. Healthier Neighbors’ mission is to promote awareness and find solutions for the behavioral health needs of its residents in Riviera Beach and northern West Palm Beach. 

Community Partners-Healthier Lake Worth ($200,000)

Funding supports Healthier Lake Worth, one of the foundation’s community-driven, multi-year, place-based initiatives. Healthier Lake Worth is working to promote awareness and find solutions for the behavioral health needs of its residents.

Leading Change for Better Brain Health Campaign (25,000) (Palm Beach County)

Funding from the B.J. and Paula Harris Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation will bring evidence-based, community brain health programs to Palm Beach County that will include training and education of medical and non-medical professionals, increasing access to services and reducing the stigma of brain health conditions.

 

Diabetes

El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center ($10,000) (Jupiter)

Funding from the B.J. and Paula Harris Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation supports the Sunshine Organic Community Garden at the EL Sol Neighborhood Resource Center. The purpose of the garden is to educate and empower all people in Jupiter to grow their own healthy foods using sustainable and organic methods. 

Genesis Community Health ($15,600) (Palm Beach County)

Funding supports the Diabetes Coalition of Palm Beach County, a voluntary alliance of over 50 healthcare organizations and community partners working together to prevent diabetes and improve the lives of people living with the disease and those who are touched by it. 

Jupiter Medical Center- Healthier Jupiter ($200,000) (Jupiter)

Funding supports Healthier Jupiter, one of the foundation’s community-driven, multi-year, place-based initiatives. It is addressing health and quality of life issues in Jupiter starting with diabetes prevention and management.

Family Caregiving

Pathways to Prosperity-Healthier Boynton Beach ($200,000) (Boynton Beach)

Funding supports Healthier Boynton Beach, one of the foundation’s community-driven, multi-year, place-based initiatives focusing on family caregiving. It has pledged to make lives of family caregivers easier by providing education, resources, home visits and respite care. 

Wellington Cares ($10,000) (Wellington)

Wellington Cares, a “Naturally Occurring Retirement Community” (NORC), offers short-term, non-clinical services to persons 65 years of age and older who need a little extra help to maintain independence. Funding supports the expansion of the Wellington Cares model to other areas of Palm Beach County.

 

Nursing Advancement

Palm Healthcare Foundation Nursing Scholarships-George Snow Scholarship Fund ($200,000) (Boca & Palm Beach County)

Funding provides for the administration of Palm Healthcare Foundation’s nursing scholarship program that provides financial support for undergraduate and graduate nursing students in Palm Beach County.

 

Palm Healthcare Foundation Nursing Scholarships-George Snow Scholarship Fund ($10,000) (Boca & Palm Beach County)

The B.J. and Paula Harris Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation supports Palm Healthcare Foundation’s nursing scholarship program administered by the George Snow Scholarship Fund.

Palm Beach Atlantic University ($100,000) (West Palm Beach)

Funding supports The Volunteer Nurse Corps (VNC) of Palm Beach County, a no-charge resource to individuals, families and caregivers in Palm Beach County. The VNC utilizes volunteer nurses to provide direct nursing care, health information and assistance navigating healthcare services in the community. 

Special Projects

 American Cancer Society ($100,000) (Palm Beach County)

Funding supports the Cancer Prevention, Education and Early Detection program in Palm Beach County. It provides low-income, at-risk individuals evidence-based interventions that raise awareness, offer education and provide transportation to cancer screenings. 

 

Cleveland Clinic Florida ($28,618) (Palm Beach County)

Funding from the Marmot Donor Advised Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation supports the General Cardiology Fund for Palm Beach County patients served at Cleveland Clinic Cardiology Center locations in South Florida.

El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center ($30,000) (Jupiter)

Funding supports AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) positions that help advance the work and collective vision of Palm Healthcare Foundation’s Healthier Together initiatives. Receiving a small living stipend, VISTAs gain knowledge and work experience by providing a year of community service. 

Granted Rent at Palm Healthcare Pavilion ($250,000)

Funding supports office space for NAMI PBC (National Alliance of Mental Illness) Health Professions Simulations Center at FAU and the Volunteer Nurse Corps of Palm Beach County.

 

Hanley Foundation ($50,000)

The Alice Busch Gronewaldt Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation supports substance abuse services at the Hanley Center.

 

Health Council of Southeast Florida ($85,000)

Funding is for the overall evaluation of Palm Healthcare Foundation’s Healthier Together Initiatives, specifically assessing health impact and communities’ capacity for action. 

Sari Center for Integrative Care/Palm Beach Cancer Institute Foundation ($2,500)

The Peter and Gary Levin Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation provides general support for cancer patients who are unable to pay for therapeutic treatments and therapies that help reduce symptoms and improve the quality of daily living.

School District of Palm Beach County ($3,650)

Funding enabled 570 students from medical academies in local middle and high schools to attend the "Our Body: The Universe Within" exhibit sponsored by Palm Healthcare Foundation at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium.

 

South Florida Science Center & Aquarium, Inc. ($60,000) (West Palm Beach)

Funding supported the “Our Body: The Universe Within” exhibit sponsored by Palm Healthcare Foundation at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, an educational exhibit of human bodies, specimens and organs.

 

 South Florida Science Center & Aquarium, Inc. ($57,021) (West Palm Beach)

Funding from the Marmot Donor Advised Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation provided general operating support for the “Our Body: The Universe Within” exhibit sponsored by Palm Healthcare Foundation at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium.

The Hospice Foundation of Palm Beach County ($25,000)

Funding from the William E. Flaherty Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation provides general operating support for hospice patients including medications, dietary and physical therapy, respite care and spiritual care.  

University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (Boca Raton Office) ($28,403) (Boca Raton)

Funding from the Marmot Donor Advised Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation provides general operating support for Dr. Raul Mitrani’s program specializing in clinical cardiac electrophysiology.  

Youth for Christ ($52,000)

Funding from the Alice Busch Gronewaldt Fund at Palm Healthcare Foundation supports the curriculum "Green Means Grow!" a holistic approach to help teen moms become physically and emotionally healthy and work toward a goal of becoming responsible and caring parents.
