A recent ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the grand opening of Baptist Health’s first patient safety Simulation Lab. Located on 4 Main at Baptist Hospital, the new medical training lab allows doctors and nurses to practice treating emergency obstetrical and neonatal cases in highly realistic and often stressful conditions. The concept of simulation was introduced by the aviation and aerospace industries. Used in medicine, the goal is to improve quality of care for patients and to reduce medical errors. Computer-animated mannequins (mother and baby) are programmed to replicate life-threatening medical emergencies. Immediate replay and feedback gives the team the ability to reflect on what was successful and what needs improving.
