On Friday-Saturday, Feb. 7-8, 2025, the third annual Miami Cancer Institute Precision Oncology Summit will be held at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel, where attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the latest advances in lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, brain tumors, gastrointestinal cancers, biomarker testing and novel therapies to treat patients.
“This year’s symposium has been designed to provide experts with the opportunity to learn about the most recent advances in the treatment of solid tumors—including lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, genitourinary tumors, head and neck tumors, melanoma, sarcomas and brain tumors—by novel targeted agents and treatment combinations,” explained Manmeet Ahluwalia, M.D., MBA, FASCO, chief of medical oncology, chief scientific officer and deputy director, Fernandez Family Endowed Chair in Cancer Research at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute.
The summit will also include updates on evolving molecular-based system therapies.
“In the last decade, we have seen a transformative change in designer drugs that treat each patient based on the genetic changes that drive their cancer,” said Dr. Ahluwalia, who has led practice-changing research for developing new therapies for patients with primary brain tumors and brain metastases for more than a decade. “Every year, multiple new drugs are being approved at a faster pace than ever before.”
He notes that the summit is geared toward oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, palliative care staff, oncology and hematology nurses, pharmacists, medical students, residents and fellows in training, research staff and other healthcare professionals who are interested in the treatment of patients with solid tumor malignancies.
Several keynote speakers are scheduled for the event, including Julie Gralow, M.D., FACP, FASCO, who will speak on ASCO’s Journey of Precision Medicine; Luis Diaz, M.D., who will discuss Immunoablative Therapy, and Vivek Subbiah, M.D., who will present Re-imagining the (R)evolution in the Precision Oncology Paradigm. Other sessions will cover topics ranging from Evolving Paradigm in Head and Neck Cancer and Addressing Disparities in Precision Oncology to Updates in Triple Negative Breast Cancer and more.
