Jonathan Vafai, MD
 
As a part of the staff at Delray Medical Center, Dr. Jonathan Vafai is a Harvard-trained noninvasive cardiologist. He serves as Chairman of the Department of Cardiology and Medical Director of the Echocardiography laboratory. He is a quadruple board-certified in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography and internal medicine. Dr. Vafai’s interests include cardio-oncology which helps patients diagnosed with cancer manage the possible cardiovascular effects of cancer treatments. Dr. Vafai’s area of interest also include echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and stress testing. Prior to joining the staff at Delray Medical Center, Dr. Vafai worked at the Heart Specialists of Central Jersey, LLP in Freehold, NJ. Dr. Vafai is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine in New York, NY and completed internal medicine residency at Harvard-Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA and fellowship/chief fellowship at North Shore-LIJ in Manhasset, NY.
 
Jean-Pierre Awaida, MD
 
Dr. Jean-Pierre Awaida is board certified in general cardiovascular medicine and in interventional cardiology. He is currently the medical director of the cardiac cath lab at Delray Medical Center and also served as Chairman of the Cardiology Department from 2018 to 2020. Dr. Awaida began practicing general and interventional cardiology in 2008 after completing his specialty training in Interventional Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital – a Harvard Medical School affiliated hospital, in Boston. Prior to that, Dr. Awaida completed his internship and residency in Internal medicine at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati where he was appointed to serve as Chief Medical Resident and then pursued three years of cardiology training at the Montreal Heart Institute affiliated with the University of Montreal. His areas of interest include coronary artery disease and coronary procedures including emergency coronary procedures to the heart in the setting of heart attacks, management of heart failure and heart rhythm diseases. He is also certified by the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography to read CT scans for coronary arteries, a noninvasive technique to visualize the arteries of the heart. Dr. Awaida is currently an Affiliate Assistant Professor at FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine.
