As I less than boldly step into 2024, it seems the only resolution I mastered in 2023 was a commitment to procrastination (and hence ignored the gym.) In lieu of actually going, I’ve perfected the art of scrolling through the various workout videos and quick weight loss ideas while still lounging on the couch.
As the calendar flips, my determination is to overcome this “avoidance syndrome,” – or at least convince Carol that I’ll start tomorrow. In this spirit, I even walked Loki this morning, hoping to add some extra steps to my routine.
My basic problem is that my commitment to healthy eating isn’t quite as strong as my love of the couch and a “good” carb. And while all that kale and quinoa stares at me from the grocery store shelves, will it get its moment in my spotlight or on my plate? Especially when I’m busy orchestrating a symphony of takeout menus and conducting the Uber Eats delivery guy like Leonard Bernstein. (Yes, we saw Maestro over the holiday.)
As Carol likes to point out, my closet is like a graveyard of resolutions — many different sizes all looking for a permanent home. But the new year is still young, and I have 364 more days to conquer. So my idea of a good start would be lunch and perhaps the quest for a perfect nap (on my favorite couch).
