As we wrap up 2025 with all the grace of someone trying to untangle last year’s holiday lights, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on how far healthcare has come—and, naturally, to predict where it’s going in 2026. After all, nothing says “holiday spirit” like making bold healthcare predictions with the same confidence we apply to saying we’ll actually eat fewer cookies this year. (We won’t. It’s fine.)

This year, South Florida’s healthcare system will once again prove that “holiday slowdown” is a myth. In 2025, our hospitals will stay as busy as Santa’s elves on December 23rd—except with fewer candy canes and more clipboards. Luckily, our physicians, nurses, techs, aides, administrators, and everyone else holding the healthcare world together keep showing up, day after day, while the rest of the world debates whether cranberry sauce should be whole or jellied. (We’re a divided household – Carol opts for whole, but I’m jellied “log” all the way.)
But what truly sets 2025 apart are the advancements: AI tools helping clinicians (and occasionally mispronouncing their names), new digital platforms promising to simplify workflows (some delivered, some… sent us back to paper), and the continued evolution of care models that have us all Googling terms like “hybrid-digital-patient-interactive-virtual-ambulatory-something-something.” We’re proud of every innovation, even if some required the patience of a saint—or at least someone with very strong holiday cheer.
Now, as we tiptoe toward 2026, what can we expect? For starters, even more technology—because if 2025 taught us anything, it’s that healthcare will never have less software again. Expect smarter tools, more predictive analytics, and at least one new platform claiming it can “revolutionize everything” (our official prediction: it will revolutionize about 37 percent of things).
We’ll also see patients continuing to take a more active role in their own care. In 2026, they’ll have more ways than ever to communicate with providers—text, portal, app, chatbot, smartwatch, carrier pigeon (still in beta). And let’s not forget staffing: while 2025 kept us all on our toes, 2026 promises renewed investment in people, culture, training, and the kind of workplace wellness that goes beyond offering fruit in the break room.
So, as we bask in the holiday season, let’s take a moment to appreciate the relentless dedication of our healthcare community. You’ve healed, supported, advocated, consoled, innovated, and—most importantly—kept showing up.
May your holidays be restful, your coffee be strong, your technology be cooperative, and your 2026 be full of hope, progress, and maybe even a full night’s sleep.
Happy Holidays from South Florida Hospital News!
