October 27, 2021 – Cleveland Clinic Florida surgeon Raul Rosenthal, MD, has been inducted into membership in the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators™. Recently, Dr. Rosenthal was among a group of 85 surgical educators inducted into membership at a Virtual Induction Ceremony. This is the fourth cohort of members inducted into this prestigious Academy.
The Mission of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators is to play a leadership role in advancing the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties promoting the highest achievements in the lifetimes of surgeons. Academy members are selected through a rigorous peer-review process and induction into the Academy is a very high honor.
Dr. Rosenthal currently serves as the Regional Institute Chair for the Department of Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic Florida. He has conducted well over 10,000 general surgery and bariatric procedures, and trained more than 50 fellows in advanced gastrointestinal, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.
In 2018, his breakthrough research into the use of indocyanine green fluorescence imaging in laparoscopic cholecystectomy was featured during the ACS Annual Clinical Congress. Based on the results of Dr. Rosenthal’s multinational, multi-year trial, the use of fluorescence imaging is becoming established as the gold standard of care for minimally-invasive gall bladder removal and other abdominal procedures worldwide.
Among his professional leadership roles, Dr. Rosenthal served as president of the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeons (ASMBS) and ASMBS Foundation; and as a past president of the South Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and The Fellowship Council.
Dr. Rosenthal is Chief Editor of SOARD, Editor of Surgery, Associate Editor of Obesity Surgery Founding Editor of Bariatric Times. He serves as an Editorial Board member of Annals of Surgery, Selected Readings in General Surgery, and Surgical Endoscopy.
