Some peoples drives were long and straight. Others made key putts for birdies and pars.
But for the 120 golfers who participated in the Robert F. Novins Memorial Golf Tournament at Hammock Creek Golf Club, the number on the scorecard was less important than the amount of money raised for the Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center at Martin Memorial.

Thanks to the generosity of numerous sponsors and golfers, the 2006 event held on May 6 collected $43,264 for the cancer center. Now in its fifth year, the tournament has raised a total of $150,000.
The popular event was launched in 2002 by siblings Beth and Carson Novins, of the Osceola Street Café, to honor their father and his battle with cancer. Carson Novins hosts this event in memory of his father and to celebrate one of his favorite pastimes with his dad a round of golf. People from as far away as California have played in the tournament to show their support for the Novins family.
Money raised from this years event will be used to purchase radiation oncology technology called the Varian Acuity System.
