October 25, 2023 – Rochelle Samarasekera, D.O. has joined the Holy Cross Health Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician employed group of more than 130 physicians providing services throughout Broward County.
A family medicine physician, Dr. Samarasekera focuses on adult medicine, annual wellness visits, preventive care, care management, pre-operative evaluation and school and work physicals.
Prior to joining Holy Cross, Dr. Samarasekera worked as a family medicine physician at Osceola Medical Center in Osceola, Wisconsin, where she provided outpatient adult and pediatric care and gained valuable experience as a hospitalist and in obstetrics. During her time there, she served on multiple committees including medical/surgical hospital, diabetes, clinic, obstetrics and quality metrics.
Dr. Samarasekera earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and English from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri and completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Samarasekera then pursued a three-year residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where she co-created monthly “Resident’s Best Practices” presentations to help fellow residents learn how to streamline practices for clinic and inpatient family medicine services.
Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Samarasekera has contributed to case studies, case reports and research on Bell’s Palsy, Parkinson’s, and children with Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and sterile mouth abscess. She also has given a presentation about the use of social media hashtags in healthcare during the Quality Improvement Symposium at the University of Minnesota.
