usan Gilbert has spent the past 17 years serving as a volunteer at Broward Health Coral Springs. She spends eight hours a week in the hospital’s volunteer office, screening and interviewing potential candidates and determining who would be the best fit for various volunteer positions, such as working in the gift shop, medical records or on patient units. She also keeps the office well-organized and running smoothly and serves as parliamentarian for the volunteer department’s board of directors.

For Susan, volunteering is truly a passion and she’s proud of the example it sets for her four grandchildren. “It’s important to give back,” she said. “I love what I do. It’s a very rewarding experience.”

Born in Toronto, Canada, Susan moved to Fort Lauderdale with her family in 1957 and worked for the local phone company for 30 years. Following her retirement, she began volunteering at Broward Health Coral Springs, where she has served for more than 6,000 hours and counting.
