Dr. Dror Paley

February 26, 2024- St. Mary’s Medical Center is the first hospital in the world to use the PRECICE ® Max System in a surgical limb lengthening procedure. Dr. Dror Paley, specialist in limb lengthening, deformity correction and pediatric orthopedics, performed the first case.  As part of the limb lengthening surgical process, the use of the Precice Nail device is intended to allow patients to be fully weight-bearing through the lengthening and consolidation process.

“I want to congratulate Dr. Paley and the orthopedic team at St. Mary’s on this first of its kind surgical advancement that will greatly benefit limb lengthening patients,” said Cynthia McCauley, CEO of St. Mary’s Medical Center.  “We are so proud of all of the milestones achieved by our orthopedics program that improve the lives of our patients and mix innovation with safety and quality.”

Dr. Paley helped develop the Precice Nail with NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics ™, now a part of Globus Medical.  Dr. Paley is also the founder and CEO of the Paley Institute and Spine Center, which is on the campus of St. Mary’s Medical Center.  The Precice Max System, which received FDA approval on December 15, 2023, is indicated for limb lengthening, fracture fixation, and bone transport of long bones in patients aged 18 years and older, as well as limb lengthening of the femur and tibia in pediatric patients over 12 years old.

“It is extremely gratifying not only to help develop the Precice Nail, but also be the first surgeon in the world to use it,” Dr. Paley said. “I’ve been contributing to the limb lengthening field for 37 years, always striving for the latest and safest technology to allow for the best outcomes, which this Precice Nail helps promote.”

The Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute is located on the campus of St. Mary’s Medical Center, home to the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital.
