Steve Streed, MS, CIC, FAPIC, System Director of Epidemiology and Infection Control for Lee Health, received the Carole DeMille Achievement Award from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). This award—which is the highest honor bestowed by APIC—recognizes Streed’s contributions and commitment to education in infection control.
Streed’s career in infection prevention and epidemiology spans 40 years, and he has served as Lee Health’s system director for more than 10 years. He has been an active member of the APIC since the late-1970s. In 1983, he was among the first group of infection preventionists to be certified in infection control and epidemiology (IPC). Committed to education in the growing field of IPC, Streed co-founded and taught some of the earliest hospital epidemiology and certification preparation courses. Through his association in the APIC, Streed has served in numerous leadership capacities, including on the APIC Board of Directors and on the editorial board for the American Journal of Infection Prevention.
