It is a great honor for the Florida Heart Research Institute to be a Health Care Hero finalist in the “Institution” category. To be recognized for our efforts to impact the health and well being of the residents of South Florida – especially those in need, gives tremendous motivation to continue our efforts. FHRI serves our community in several significant ways: through our free cardiac screening programs that serve the underserved and uninsured, through our Corporate Screening and Education Program that serves the South Florida business community, through our free educational lectures that we provide upon request to community based organizations and through our clinical trials and cardiovascular research studies which provide immeasurable benefits both locally and nationwide. For example, in 2005, the Research Institute screened over 4,000 Florida residents and found that more than 60% of those screened were urged to seek medical advice for elevated blood pressure, cholesterol or glucose levels. For just a few dollars per person, these screenings truly save lives.

Our programs and services have widespread impact throughout South Florida due largely to our strong partnerships with other healthcare providers, advocates and researchers who work with us every day to provide the outreach necessary for successful programs. FHRI believes that our collaborations with community partners make us stronger as a group than we each would be individually.
