March 5, 2024 – Tyler Lee, a frequent trampoline park visitor, experienced a flip gone wrong, which resulted in a dislocated and broken neck. However, his journey towards healing took a positive turn under the expert care of Dr. Steven Vanni, DO, neurosurgeon at HCA Florida University Hospital.

Reflecting on the severity of Tyler’s condition, Dr. Vanni shared, “This could have been a devastating injury. Some people even become paralyzed. He did have a neurological deficit. He was losing the function in one of his arms.”
Tyler underwent a critical anterior cervical discectomy and fusion procedure, wherein his vertebrae were realigned to correct the dislocation. Emphasizing the significance of the surgery in restoring Tyler’s quality of life, Dr. Vanni reiterated the seriousness of such injuries, drawing parallels to common occurrences like car accidents and diving accidents.
Tyler shared, “This was the scariest day of my life. I never thought I would break my neck. I am just happy to be alive and I am eager to get back to weightlifting and Taekwondo.”
