Scott Simmons, M.S., has joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as director of telemedicine. Simmons had been assistant director of the Telemedicine Center at East Carolina University since 2001.

Simmons conceived and implemented the National Telehealth Virtual Grand Rounds, which involves organizations from across the country. Before that he led the Advanced Projects Section of Wyle Life Sciences at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, which focused on the integration of advanced medical technologies into space shuttle and international space station programs. Simmons is treasurer and a board member of the American Telemedicine Association.
