Principal Investigator Diana D. Cardenas, M.D., M.H.A., professor and chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and chief of service at Jackson Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital, has recently received a five year grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, Department of Education, to conduct research, provide a model spinal cord injury (SCI) system of care and broadly disseminate education and research finding to consumers and professionals. The grant, entitled the South Florida SCI Model System, acknowledges the excellence in clinical and research activities in spinal cord injury that is provided at the Rehabilitation Hospital on the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center campus.
 
The Co-Principal Investigators are Larry Brooks, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Mark Nash, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
