West Boca Medical Center reflects back on 2016’s top achievements. The hospital is proud of the dedicated physicians, staff and volunteers who made this year’s long list of accolades possible. Below are some highlights:

Top Score in Patient Safety
West Boca was the only hospital in Palm Beach County to earn 10 consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” and “F” letter grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year.

Operating Room Expansion
The hospital is planning a $9.9 million project to expand and enlarge OR capabilities for modernization, improved efficiency and advanced technological capability. Construction will include a new OR and the renovation and expansion of three of the five existing ORs. The beds in the post-anesthesia care unit will more than double from 6 to 14, and the unit will be remodeled as well.

30th Anniversary
In celebration of 30 years of service to the community, West Boca hosted a picnic for employees, physicians and volunteers. The event recognized over 45 members of the West Boca family who have dedicated themselves to improving the health of the community since the hospital opened in 1986. Additionally, as part of its annual medical staff meeting, West Boca held a special physician recognition event to honor those who have been affiliated with the hospital since its opening and thank them for their many years of service.

Heroes in Medicine Award
CEO Mitch Feldman received the Palm Beach Medical Society’s Heroes in Medicine Award. Feldman was specifically honored as a “Bruce Rendina Professional Hero,” which is awarded to non-physician healthcare professionals who have significantly impacted the community.

Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™
For the second consecutive year, the hospital achieved the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ by Healthgrades. The distinction places West Boca within the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care provided to mothers during labor and delivery.

NICU Reunion
West Boca hosted its 4th annual NICU Reunion for former patients of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), their families and medical staff. The event gave NICU graduates the opportunity to reunite with the individuals who looked after them during their first few days of life.

Heart Failure & Stroke Quality Achievement Awards
The American Heart/Stroke Association honored the hospital with the Get With The Guidelines®– Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite. The awards recognize the hospital’s commitment to meeting nationally recognized, research-based quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure and stroke patients.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
In an effort to help end the fight against breast cancer, West Boca sponsored the annual “Making Strides of South Palm Beach” walk. All funds raised went towards research, providing information and services to the community, and giving women access to various screenings and treatment.
