West Boca Medical Center School of Radiology Reaches Milestone

The Radiology School at West Boca Medical Center recently reached a key milestone. The school’s students completed the 1,000th x-ray taken at Caridad Clinic, a Boynton Beach center that provides free medical and dental care to children and families of agricultural workers, laborers and other underserved individuals from Palm Beach County’s working poor population.

According to Radiology School Program Director Ray Mata, B.S., R.T.R., his radiology technician students have been volunteering at the center for the past two years in order to experience the benefits of giving back to their community.

“Going to Caridad Clinic is above and beyond our school’s rigorous requirements and is strictly voluntary,” he said. “But we’ve found that once our students go the first time, they really enjoy being there.”

On the receiving end, Carmen Nieves, Administrative Director of Caridad Clinic, emphasizes she wouldn’t even be able to provide radiology services if it weren’t for the West Boca Medical Center students.

“They come to us well-trained and ready to do their job,” said Nieves. “Most importantly, they are wonderful with our population and show patience and compassion for both pediatric and adult patients at the clinic.”
