Dr. Silverstein and Dr. Parr

September 11, 2025- Stephen Silverstein, D.O., a respected internist and gerontologist, is well known throughout South Florida, having served the medical needs of patients for decades. After building a successful internal medicine practice in Pompano Beach, Dr. Silverstein remains active in the community and continues to care for vulnerable seniors.

When Dr. Silverstein himself required surgery to repair a hernia, he turned to someone he trusted, Alexander Parr, M.D., a surgeon at Broward Health Imperial Point. In spring 2025, Dr. Silverstein underwent a successful robotic hernia repair under the care of Dr. Parr.

“I’ve been in healthcare for many years, so I know what to expect,” said Dr. Silverstein. “My experience at Broward Health Imperial Point was exceptional and exceeded every expectation I had as a patient.”

While he has privileges at the hospital, Dr. Silverstein did not inform leadership of his scheduled procedure, nor did he request any special treatment. Instead, he chose to experience the process as any other patient would and came away genuinely impressed.

“My journey from the time I was admitted, through pre-op, post-op and recovery was efficient and seamless,” Dr. Silverstein said. “I was treated the way every patient deserves to be treated, with respect, kindness and a careful attention to detail. When I was at my most vulnerable, the team was compassionate and supportive every step of the way.”

Dr. Parr, affectionately known as “The Doctor’s Doctor,” performed the successful intricate robotic surgery using minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Silverstein was discharged the same day.

“It’s always an honor when a fellow physician trusts you with their care,” said Dr. Parr. “Dr. Silverstein’s decision to come to Broward Health Imperial Point speaks volumes about the confidence he has in our team and the advanced, patient-centered care we deliver every day.”

Aside from some minor soreness, Dr. Silverstein felt remarkably well. “If my surgery hadn’t been on a Friday,” he joked, “I would’ve gone to work the next day.”
