November 20, 2024 – Jupiter Medical Center recently observed World Stroke Day with a special patient reunion. This reunion brought together patients and their family members, with their stroke care team and local EMS responders, to celebrate life and highlight the profound impact of collaborative care in stroke recovery.
As part of the event, Juan Gomez, MD, DABR, Director of the stroke program and Neurointerventional Radiology at Jupiter Medical Center, hosted an informative presentation with insights from diagnosis to intervention and recovery and shared case studies showcasing the remarkable outcomes achieved through innovative treatment and collaborative care.
Seven former patients attended the reunion and shared their personal stories of the exceptional care they received at Jupiter Medical Center, sharing how Dr. Gomez and the care team saved their lives and preserved their brain function, allowing them to live life to the fullest once more. Patients also had the opportunity to acknowledge the indispensable role of local EMS teams and how their swift response and expertise were crucial in ensuring these survivors received the urgent care they needed.
“I work in the healthcare field, and I work with doctors and nurses all the time,” says Chrissy Paolillio, daughter of a patient and a registered nurse. “Not one person has said to me that they ever had a patient who survived the kind of brain stem stroke my father had. It’s the craziest, most wonderful thing that he survived this. From the minute he fell to the minute he was in the operating room at Jupiter was like 3 hours. The speed of care, and the expertise of the entire team, are why he survived this. And Dr. (Juan) Gomez saved my dad’s life.”
