“We are extremely close to eradicating this deadly and crippling disease from the world, and we are raising funds for this final push for all children around the world,” stated Maria Kesti, Polio Chair for Rotary International District 6990.

Rotary International began their Polio Eradication Program 37 years ago and this effort has averted 1.8 million wild polio cases and provided 9 billion vaccine doses with over 2 million volunteers vaccinating 220 million children multiple times each year. As recent as 1996, over 75,000 children were paralyzed by Polio each year and now only 26 cases remain in the world..

Matt Malone, CEO of Miami Club Rum Distillery stated, “We are honored to participate in raising funds and awareness for this great cause, especially understanding the impact that these efforts have resulted in around the world! And breaking this record for these efforts is a bonus!”

Rotary District 6990 encompasses Southeast Florida and Grand Bahama Island with 50 Rotary Clubs and 1800 members.  Michael Kesti, District Governor, stated “Not only did we raise funds for this cause, we helped set a new world’s record, and had plenty of Cuba Libre’s.
