The 1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer, Inc. recently donated $20,000 to Broward Health Foundation to fund two much-needed projects at Broward Health Medical Center.
The first project is MEDi, a two-foot-tall interactive robot that will be used by the Child Life staff at Broward Health Children’s Hospital to reduce pain and anxiety in pediatric patients. MEDi, which stands for Medicine and Engineering Designing Intelligence, will ease young patients’ anxiety by telling stories or playing games with them. MEDi will even accompany children during blood tests and other procedures. The robot is a new addition to the Pediatric Distraction System that the 1000+ Club generously funded in 2014. This gift has allowed the children’s hospital to continue to integrate cutting-edge technology into the treatment process.
Another project that will receive funding is art therapy for adult cancer patients receiving treatment in the Noreen Salah Burpee Adult Infusion Center. Art therapy has proven to be a vital part of the healing process and this gift will provide this invaluable service to patients in the hospital’s care.
