The Florida Hospital Association announced the 2006 Hospital Hero of the Year at its 79th Annual Meeting in Orlando. Kelley Cowan, CLS, a Child Life Specialist at the Childrens Hospital of Southwest Florida, part of the Lee Memorial Healthcare System, received the honor at a standing-room-only meeting of the association.
Cowan, who serves as a Child Life Specialist in the hospitals Pediatric ICU, was nominated by one of the hospitals pediatric nurses. “I wanted to nominate Kelly for this award because I feel she deserves it, for she truly is a hero on our unit,” said Kelly Cunningham, RN, in her nomination essay. Cowan received her award with her husband, a Marine who recently returned from Iraq, from the FHAs Board Chair, Sue Brody.
