May 13, 2026 — Patient safety and high-quality care remain top priorities for Lee Health, and the health system is pleased to announce that two of its adult acute care hospitals have earned five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest distinction in the agency’s annual hospital rating system.
HealthPark Medical Center and Lee Memorial Hospital both improved their ratings from four stars to five stars. Gulf Coast Medical Center maintained its four-star rating, while Cape Coral Hospital received a three-star rating. Children’s hospitals are not included in the CMS rating system.

The CMS overall star rating is based on how a hospital performs across different areas of quality, such as treating heart attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates, and safety of care. The rating shows how individual hospitals perform compared to all hospitals across the country.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services created this rating system to help consumers, their families, and caregivers more easily compare hospitals. The scores are based on quality and safety data points, including readmissions, safety of care, patient experiences, outcomes, and timeliness of care.
