August 14, 2026 — HCA Florida Northwest Hospital recently expanded its advanced cardiovascular services with the successful completion of a renal denervation procedure, an innovative, minimally invasive treatment option for certain patients with hypertension.
The procedure was performed by Asif Jawaid, MD, interventional cardiologist, in collaboration with HCA Florida Northwest Hospital’s cardiovascular care team.
Renal denervation is designed to help lower blood pressure by targeting overactive nerves surrounding the renal arteries, which supply blood to the kidneys and play a role in blood pressure regulation. The procedure may be considered for appropriately selected patients whose high blood pressure remains difficult to control despite lifestyle changes and medication.

The patient who underwent the procedure is doing well and continues to receive follow-up care and monitoring from the cardiovascular team.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. When blood pressure remains uncontrolled, it can increase the risk of serious health complications, including heart attack and stroke.
