Broward Health North unveiled a major investment in emergency care with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating new CT scan and X-ray equipment located directly inside the emergency room. The new imaging technology is just steps from ER triage, allowing patients to receive critical scans quickly without leaving the ER to go to the hospital’s imaging center. The event was celebrated by Broward Health leadership and physicians, Broward Sheriff’s Office personnel, construction and design teams and local EMS agencies from Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach and Lighthouse Point.
The advanced equipment allows technologists to capture up to 640 cross-sectional images of the body per rotation with near-instantaneous reconstruction, enabling 3D imaging for CTs of the coronary arteries, angiograms and perfusion studies to be performed steps from the trauma bay. Patients will now have a CT scanner just seconds away from any ER room, compared to what used to be located further away in the hospital’s main imaging department, and X-ray patients will be imaged on a stationary table rather than relying solely on portable equipment.
