Nov. 2, 2026 – Healthcare Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive, accessible healthcare services to underserved communities, has received a $20,500 grant from the Christ Child Society of Naples to expand its Book Nook initiative in pediatric practices located in Golden Gate and Immokalee. The funding will help put more books into the hands of young patients, inspiring a love of reading, strengthening early literacy skills and supporting healthy childhood development.
With support from the Christ Child Society of Naples, Healthcare Network previously established Book Nooks at four of its pediatric practices, creating welcoming, literacy-rich spaces where children can explore books while waiting for their appointments. The latest grant will build on that investment by providing more books for children to enjoy during their visits with their medical provider.
Reading plays an important role in childhood development, helping strengthen language, memory and critical thinking skills. With more than half of Collier County’s children receiving care at Healthcare Network, initiatives like the Book Nooks provide an opportunity to foster early literacy, support cognitive development and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
“We believe that supporting a child’s health means nurturing their growth and development in every way possible,” said Jamie Ulmer, CEO of Healthcare Network. “Through the continued generosity of the Christ Child Society of Naples, we can help make books more accessible to the children and families we serve. By encouraging reading at an early age, we’re helping children develop important skills that support their growth, learning and overall well-being.”
As Collier County’s only Federally Qualified Health Center, Healthcare Network recognizes that supporting children’s health extends beyond medical care. Through initiatives like Book Nooks, the organization continues to find meaningful ways to support childhood development, encourage family engagement and help children build a strong foundation for a healthy future.
