Florida Breast Cancer Foundation’s “End Breast Cancer” license plate turns everyday purchases into meaningful investments in the fight against breast cancer
November 3, 2026 — For Florida drivers, choosing a specialty license plate is about more than personalizing their vehicle. It’s an opportunity to support causes that matter, from education and environmental conservation to veterans’ services and lifesaving medical research.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the state offers more than 100 specialty license plates benefiting a wide range of organizations and initiatives. A portion of the fees collected from each plate supports its designated cause, transforming an everyday purchase into an ongoing source of funding for programs that make a difference.
One powerful example is the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF), whose “End Breast Cancer” specialty license plate helps fund critical breast cancer research and education throughout the Sunshine State.
“Something as simple as choosing a license plate can have a lasting impact on the lives of Floridians facing breast cancer,” said Karen Patti, Executive Director of the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. “Every purchase and renewal provides $25 to support research and education right here in our state. It’s a meaningful way for drivers to show their support while helping us move closer to a future without breast cancer.”
The impact of Florida drivers’ support is significant. Through specialty license plate purchases, renewals and voluntary contributions, the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation has generated critical funding to advance its mission, including:
- $11.4 million+ generated through “End Breast Cancer” specialty license plate sales since the program’s inception in 2002.
- $900,000+ raised through additional, voluntary contributions made while residents are renewing their drivers license or vehicle registration.
- $998,621 awarded in 2026–2027 Scientific Research Grants, funding 10 innovative studies at leading Florida institutions.
- $146,440 awarded in 2026–2027 Education Grants to 11 Florida organizations supporting breast health education, early detection awareness, patient navigation, self-advocacy and survivorship.
Every “End Breast Cancer” specialty license plate purchased or renewed contributes $25 directly to the Foundation, with 100% of those funds remaining in Florida.
These investments are helping researchers explore new approaches to understanding, preventing and treating breast cancer while expanding access to education and resources for Floridians affected by the disease. By supporting both scientific discovery and community-based education, FBCF is working to improve outcomes for patients and families across the state.
“Behind every grant is an opportunity to change someone’s life,” added Patti. “The generosity of Florida drivers and our supporters allows us to invest in some of the brightest scientific minds in our state, advance promising discoveries and bring us closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Every contribution helps move that work forward.”
