For nearly 75 years, Martin Health System in Stuart has focused on providing access to exceptional health care for Treasure Coast residents. As a not-for-profit, community-based health care organization Martin Health has a long history of offering a continuum of care – including preventive, primary and acute hospital care, as well as cancer and cardiac care, wellness and rehabilitation services.

While that tradition continued in 2012, it was also a transformative year for the health system with several major milestones that position it for the future as well:
• In March, Martin Health broke ground on Tradition Medical Center, a 90-bed hospital in west Port St. Lucie. In late October, the final beam was placed on the six-floor structure during a topping out ceremony. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2013, with a January 2014 opening. The hospital is located on the campus of Tradition Center for Innovation, part of a life sciences research hub in the middle of the Treasure Coast.
• The Martin Health System Center for Clinical Research continues to enhance its partnerships with the life sciences organizations at Tradition Center for Innovation. The Center for Clinical Research provides patients access to innovative clinical trials leading to the approval of new drugs for cancer and other diseases. Since 2009, the health system has collaborated on a number of research studies with VGTI Florida and plays a key role in Tradition Center for Innovation’s development. Tradition Medical Center is being built in close proximity to Torrey Pines and VGTI Florida.
• Martin Health has partnered with HealthSouth Corporation for a new comprehensive medical rehabilitation hospital in Martin County. The 34-bed hospital will provide comprehensive physical rehabilitation to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries or other major illness or injuries. HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital at Martin South is targeted for completion in spring 2013.
• Martin Health has undergone a vast information technology transformation in recent months enhancing and upgrading electronic medical record capability through Epic, the industry leader in health care technology systems. A component of Epic, MyChart, allows patients to securely view select health care information and communicate with their physician from anywhere in the world by way of a computer or smartphone.
Martin Health also received numerous recognitions for the quality of care it provides. Among the awards, accreditations and recognitions it received:
• Martin Health was named a seven-time winner of the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals Award and a Thomson Reuters 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital for the second time.
• For the second consecutive year, Martin Medical Center was named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by the Joint Commission.
• Martin Health was named a Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems winner by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine.
• The health system once again received The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for disease-specific care for stroke as well as for hip and knee replacement. Martin Health retained certification as a primary stroke center and the Orthopaedic Specialty Center received certification for health care quality related to joint replacement of the knee and hip.
• The Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center was granted a three-year accreditation with commendation by the Commission on Cancer.
